my taste in music
best described as: "rock, electronica, and classical/jazz, especially when they intersect."
here's a word soup (yay SEO!) that might have some genres you recognize:
- indie / alt / punk / hard / synth rock
- EDM, electro funk, synthwave, synthpop, bedroom pop, hyperpop, future funk, kawaii bass, vocaloid, chiptune
- jazz, electro swing, glitch hop
overall best
i could write at length about so many of my favorite songs, but until i do, i highly encourage a listen!
(note that spotify preview only shows the first 100 songs in a playlist - both of these exceed that in length)

recent vibes
- 2025-02-18: still hard on the Patricia Taxxon bender. I spent 90% of December listening only to Patricia Taxxon music, and about 50% since then. new favorites:
- Gelb (beautiful intense electronica)
- Astral (mostly chill, meandering beautiful crystalline music. fantastic mental health monologue sample in Astral 5)
- Agnes & Hilda (absolute banger experimental hiphop/rap electronica)
- Daylight Spectrum (small bouncy tunes. i've been using it as a wake-up playlist)
- The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe (concept album of a furry BDSM relationship turned sour and abandoned)
- 2024-11-30: holy shit Patricia Taxxon has so much incredible music. i've started by listening to a few of their "top" albums by # YouTube views, i encourage you do something similar or check out her bandcamp:
- The Best Day (17x 2m30s songs, varied weird electronica vibes)
- Rainbow Road (generally-accessible instrumental "bouncy" / danceable EDM)
- Little Spoon
- Bicycle
- Pix & Bit
- 2024-11-24: Crying - Beyond the Fleeting Gales (electro alt rock, uplifting lyrics)
- I also really like some songs from their earlier chiptune EPs - try Olde World or ES
- 2024-11-20: Hector Morlet - Music for Squares ("squiggly" bedroom pop - makes me think sort of bo en crossed with Graham Kartna)
- 2024-09: Aphex Twin (techno/drum&bass/acid/ambient) - i don't know how i missed out on this artist for so long
- Magdalena Bay's album Mercurial World (synth pop). i swear Magdalena Bay is going to be an "overnight hit" soon, esp after going to their concert here in Durham on Sept 22
